{"id":712,"date":"2011-08-17T12:16:00","date_gmt":"2011-08-17T19:16:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mikelberman.com\/blog\/?p=712"},"modified":"2014-11-07T00:31:17","modified_gmt":"2014-11-07T07:31:17","slug":"grand-illusion-for-anthony-sneed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/mikelberman.com\/blog\/?p=712","title":{"rendered":"Grand Illusion for Anthony Sneed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brooklyn based artist, <a href=\"http:\/\/anthonysneed.com\">Anthony Sneed<\/a>, commissioned a kinetic piece for his gallery show Grand Illusion at the Shooting Gallery in San Francisco. \u00a0I worked with fellow ITPers, Shahar Zaks &amp; Luis Violante, to design, engineer and fabricate an interactive version of Anthony&#8217;s canvas or wood paintings.<\/p>\n<p>There were a few design challenges along the way:<\/p>\n<p>Fabricating\u00a0custom linkages to convert radial motion of a motor into a\u00a0linear drawer motion.<\/p>\n<p>As the middle-ground is static, design a mechanism to move two drawers (top and bottom) with one motor.<\/p>\n<p>Ensure the drawers retain smooth travel in and out of the cabinet.<\/p>\n<p>Colin Day and Anthony put this great video together. \u00a0It documents the artist himself interacting with his piece.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t believe he changes the cabinet&#8217;s behavior mode in the video.<\/p>\n<p>Shahar programmed different modes that vary speed, responsiveness and the drawers&#8217; relationship to each other.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/26897238?byline=0&amp;portrait=0\" width=\"601\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Brooklyn based artist, Anthony Sneed, commissioned a kinetic piece for his gallery show Grand Illusion at the Shooting Gallery in San Francisco. \u00a0I worked with fellow ITPers, Shahar Zaks &amp; Luis Violante, to design, engineer and fabricate an interactive version of Anthony&#8217;s canvas or wood paintings.
