3D Scanning / Digital Lifting – Udit & Regina
We first went to Bitforms Gallery to do a 3D scanning “shoplift”. The exhibition was by the artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer which discusses surveillance and the technological “control” that is pervasive in our society. The artist inspired us to think about the concept of digital surveillance and how we could incorporate this into our digital shoplifting assignment.
We first experienced the exhibit:
We then used 123D Catch to 3D scan some of the pieces in the exhibit.
123D Catch did not produce high quality scans. We think this may be because of the lighting or the fact that the iPhone camera is not very high quality. It could also be a result of the iPhone app.
Here are the 3D scans from the Bitforms exhibit:
We were inspired by the idea of surveillance so we used a Sense Scanner to take digital scans of our heads:
Using the Sense application:
We borrowed a camera model:

We then wanted to subvert our own busts to make a statement about surveillance:
We entitled this project Surveil Yourself and uploaded it on Thingiverse:
