Miri – Final Proposals
Idea 1: Continuing with my previous project on generating sculptures from poetry, I would like to make an installation of algorithmic sculptures generated by poetry and other means of linguistic art. This project would utilize grasshopper and either 3D printing or lasercut/CNC, depending on the size and material choices. I would like to further explore the methodology I employed to translate artistic works into data, as well as the features of the geometries generated.
Idea 2: Part of my thesis concept utilizes twists and distortions of simple shapes to make interesting surfaces within the game world I am creating. Although my thesis itself will be fully digital, I would love to fabricate these implausible geographies into a physical experience. These would likely need to be 3d printed and installed on floors/walls.
Idea 3: I’ve always wanted to vandalize the world with my bunnies. In a tasteful, physical graffiti way of course. Maybe just for the sheer enjoyment of it, I would make a mass sculptural collection of my characters in 3D form. Maybe I would just make surfaces for them to live on and projection map an army of bunnies swarming over various surfaces.
Hi Miri!
Poetry Sculpture – I like this concept a lot! I think it is interesting how you seem to be following this general theme in your work (i.e. your quantum box and bunny script). You are drawn to this idea of creating an artistic “coding language” and bringing “art” back into the digital language/making. I think this could be a really interesting continuation and stream of your work in DT. I would love it if the sculptures were really big! I think one of the reason Quantum Box was so awesome was the sheer scale you used. It would be cool to see some giant stuff!
Thesis Geometry – I like this! I think in terms of thesis this could be really great as a short side project that could serve both as documentation or as a stand alone project. People love physical stuff and since you are working totally in the digital space for thesis, this could be really awesome to see the physical nature of the world you are creating. You could also projection map onto the installed pieces. Also, would be cool to see them at different scales – small and large!
Bunnies – I know you love bunnies, so of course this is on trend with your overall work! Sometimes its nice to just be playful… if you are feeling in that mood – go for it! Everything you make is beautiful so I am sure whatever you come up with will be great!
The most exciting idea for me is idea 2. It will be an interesting exploration to have the shapes in the physical world. Can you give these surfaces a narrative in the physical world that would mimic that on the screen? How big are these objects? Can they be interactive?
Hi Mira,
All your ideas sound great. I understand your heart will be for bunnies….but I am leaning towards Idea 2: I think it has potential to show a solid consistency of twists using form of these implausible geographies. The series can be a line of sculptures?
