Final Project – Shakti
Concept
391,000 Brooklynites commute to Manhattan each day. Last year, I used to live off the J/M/Z trains and so everyday I would travel from Brooklyn to Manhattan…. since they were above ground trains, it meant that I would get to see the manhattan skyline each morning.
This year, I moved to downtown brooklyn, and now take the A/C trains… which are underground. This also means I don’t get to see the manhattan skyline everyday. I started to reminisce how although just a short couple of minutes, being able to see the skyline everyday was kinda neat… especially for someone who sits in front of her computer screen all day. And although this sounds cheesy… whether subconsciously or not, being able to see the skyline every morning reminded me that I was part of this amazing city, and gave me a sense of belonging to something bigger than myself.
I want to create an intervention in the underground trains that depicts an image of what is missing. How can what is missing be presented back to the environment.
Initially I was going to do the entire skyline, but it was sooo time consuming.
