Hussein & Lama // 3D Scanning

Concept //

For this project we decided to combine two entities that can never merge in real life: a hookah and our friend Saman’s head. We called this project Samooka.

Process //

At first we decided to use the application 123D Catch primarily because it would be handle the object and we can have access to it anywhere. We first tested it on a cigarette box to see how much detail we can get. It took almost a day to process and eventually the details were all off.

Given our “objects” of choice, we decided it would be best to use the handled 3D scanner. Our challenge for the hookah we getting the right position so we can get a full 360 angle in order to capture all the details. Eventually instead of us going around it and losing the frame, we fixed the device and rotated the hookah on a form of pedestal. For Saman, we decided to use the same technique and have him rotate steadily around as the scanner was still. We eventually imported then to rhino and merged the 2 scans.
