Lama // Final Proposal Ideas
1. Filter bubble installation
I am collaborating with another colleague at DT for Performative Sculpture class. It is based on my thesis.
Thesis Concept / My project is a critical design installation that aims to raise awareness of the prevalence of filter bubbles on the web. Filter bubbles are created through data on each user’s personalized searches. Technology companies cater information accordingly. The piece will highlight how filter bubbles reinforce confirmation bias. They shelter the user from divergent views and contribute to societal segmentation.
Installation /
We will be designing in installation where users are asked to lookup any word. A series of different search results will appear project on several screens. The difference between the search results are due to different cookies that distinguish between the users.
I will use the wood shop to make the platform for the mac and the metal shop to design fixtures for the projectors. I might also use rhino to design objects.
2. 3D printed products
I will continue what I started doing for the midterm with the moon lamp. I will explore new methods of 3D printing natural objects and bringing them into our space.
3. Cookies filter bubbles visualization
Using aesthetic of structural engineering, I will visualize the variety of websites in my history and how many times I have visited them. It is physical representation of an important parameter that shapes our filter bubbles ie cookies.
Hi Lama!
Cool concepts!
For the first concept I would say since your doing that for two other classes, to explore something different in this class.
For the moon lamp I would think about adding more components to make it more interesting for users. Also, how do you envision this as being a installation? Would it be big moon lamps? Would people be able to turn lights on and off? Would they even be able to touch? What could be the story behind it?
For me, the most interesting is the last concept. I think you can create a visualization that is very interesting and intriguing, also has a story behind it that makes it even more interesting. You could probably use grasshopper and rhino to that, and later print it in 3D. You could even separate themes of the research and create pieces of different visualizations that after comes together as one.
If you have any questions about my comments let me know! Good luck!! 🙂
