Nima // Final proposal
- continue working on the midterm project (thesis)
2. 3D printed structure for molds of body parts
3. 3D print dreams
for this idea I can compose a set of objects that can go together to form a dream. this objects include an interactive landscape and solid forms in the space that can represent an interaction
working with openSCAD for this idea is shown as below.
-lastest version:
in the latest version of this installation. Ill make a metal box that I can put screen in the back of it, then working with sewing machine will trigger the start of patterns on the screen. what you see in the box is a solid 3Dprinted object that has the reflections from the patterns on it.
here is an example of the kind of patterns I was working with:
I really like the sound of 3D printed dreams. Reminds me of Christina’s major studio projects and her work in general. I would suggest talking to her.
Also it makes most sense to combine thesis. A little more insight into what form that might take will be helpful for feedback :]
Nice Nima, Inspiring ideas.
Knowing how passionate you are about the concept behind your thesis at the moment, the the second idea felt really lacklustre in comparison. Sure robots are cool, and printing cheap and affordable mechanical limbs have some major implications – but it’s just not that interesting. I feel this was all the craze 4 or 5 years ago when 3D printing was really becoming accessible.
The third idea sounds like an interesting data visualization. However, although those who know the process can appreciate it’s value – sometimes these outputs can be interpreted as mundane as they aren’t always that aesthetically pleasing. Unless you can put in the time to push this idea to a point where it becomes a desirable form that people can truly appreciate, I’d suggest continuing with your thesis. This said – I think you should have a fresh brainstorm and think about other elements that could be added that might fulfill the Phys Graff brief also; ie off road wheels so your plant could move around a garden(following light) or into the public realm. A plant moving through Union Square could be pretty humorous.
Good luck
I would like to see you do your second or third idea. But I’m not sure in what ways you would make it accessible to the public, or what interactions there would be. I think you might need to elaborate a little more.
