Udit // Self-portrait

For this assignment, I focussed on creating complex, geometrical structures from simple shapes (boxes, cones etc.) using Rhino and Grasshopper. I created a tool in Grasshopper that let me subdivide a geometry in X and Y dimensions. It lets you control the distance between the subdivisions as well as the thickness of it. It divides the layers in the two dimensions and make objects that can be easily laser-cutted. The pieces fit together like puzzle pieces.

I followed this tutorial to generate the tool.

This tool enabled me to create geometrical and procedural architectural sculptures with simple shapes. I 3D printed one of those. I plan on generating a lot of these for using them as a virtual installation/performance in Unity3D as architectural elements. These are some qualities/aspects that are reflected in a lot of my work too: Geometric, Repetition, Procedural and Generative design.

I generated supports using Meshmixer.
