{"id":1153,"date":"2015-11-10T16:40:49","date_gmt":"2015-11-10T16:40:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mikelberman.com\/pgraff\/?p=1153"},"modified":"2015-11-25T23:25:32","modified_gmt":"2015-11-25T23:25:32","slug":"self-portrait-regina","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mikelberman.com\/pgraff\/self-portrait-regina\/","title":{"rendered":"Self Portrait &#8211; Regina"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mikelberman.com\/pgraff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/regina_flores_2_final_self.gh_.zip\">regina_flores_2_final_self.gh<\/a><\/p>\n<p>My inspiration for this project came from a project from the Met&#8217;s Media Lab called\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.metmuseum.org\/about-the-museum\/museum-departments\/office-of-the-director\/digital-media-department\/digital-underground\/2014\/extruded-rembrandt\">Extruded Rembrandt<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em>The artist used images of historical paintings as inputs to generate 3D prints using the HSB from the images. I wanted to try and make something like this for my Self Portrait.<\/p>\n<p>I based this work off a YouTube tutorial which can be found\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=X1MG1wgNwpA\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I first started out in Grasshopper by making a series of points in a grid and extruding them into boxes. Using MeshMixer I sliced off the extraneous edges. I made the piece a lot smaller to improve the printing and I printed it using translucent filament to increase the light transparency.
